## About

Paste launch copy and see a live count against the Product Hunt tagline (60), an X post (280), a LinkedIn post (3,000), and a Reddit title (300). Free, in your browser, with each limit cited.

## Limits that are counted

Product Hunt tagline: 60 characters. Launch Guide (https://help.producthunt.com/en/articles/17350772-launch-guide) says the tagline caps at 60 characters. Preparing for your Product Hunt launch (https://www.producthunt.com/launch/preparing-for-launch) says Tagline (max 60 characters).
X post: 280 weighted characters. Counting characters (https://docs.x.com/fundamentals/counting-characters) says posts can contain up to 280 characters. Emoji count as 2, CJK count as 2, and a URL counts as 23. Weights match the twitter-text v3 config (https://github.com/twitter/twitter-text/blob/master/config/v3.json). That page does not publish a separate paid-account cap.
LinkedIn post: 3,000 characters. Post and share updates (https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a528176) says posts can contain up to 3,000 characters. Posts and articles (https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a522483) says the character limit for a post is 3000 characters.
Reddit title: 300 characters. POST /api/submit on the Reddit Data API (https://www.reddit.com/dev/api/) says the title is up to 300 characters long. A subreddit can set a shorter title_text_max_length.

## How the count works

Product Hunt, LinkedIn, and Reddit counts are Unicode grapheme clusters after NFC normalization. The X count uses X's published weights. A URL that starts with http://, https://, or www. counts as 23. A bare domain without that prefix is counted character by character; X's twitter-text library can count some bare domains as 23. The text stays in the browser and is not uploaded.

## Fields left off

Product Hunt name and first comment: How to post a product (https://help.producthunt.com/en/articles/479557-how-to-post-a-product) and the launch guide describe them and do not publish a character maximum.
Product Hunt description: the Launch Guide and How to post a product say 260 characters. Preparing for your Product Hunt launch says max 500 characters. The official pages disagree, so the description is not scored.
Hacker News title: the guidelines (https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html) do not publish a character maximum.
Meta title and meta description: Google Search Central says there is no limit on title length (https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/title-link) and no limit on meta description length (https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/snippet).
