About Reel Motion

I just built Reel Motion, an app that turns workout videos from Instagram, TikTok and YouTube into structured workouts you can actually follow.

The idea is pretty simple. There are thousands of great workout videos online, but actually using them during a workout isn't always convenient. You have to keep pausing the video, rewinding to see an exercise again, checking how many reps you need to do, and picking up your phone between sets.

And if you're like me, you probably have a bunch of workout videos saved across different apps that you never look at again.

So I built Reel Motion to make those videos actually useful.

You share a workout video with the app, Reel Motion analyzes it, detects the exercises and turns everything into a step-by-step routine.

Instead of following the original video from beginning to end, you can complete each exercise at your own pace.

Some of the main features I built:

  • Turn Instagram, TikTok and YouTube workout videos into routines

  • Automatically detect exercises from the video

  • Exercise illustrations so you can quickly check each movement

  • Step-by-step workout instructions

  • Reps and timers for individual exercises

  • Audio coaching during the workout

  • Voice controls so you don't have to keep touching your phone

  • Save imported workouts to your personal library

  • Create your own workouts manually

  • Track completed workouts and workout streaks

  • Sync completed workouts with Apple Health

  • Use your workouts across iPhone and iPad

One thing I specifically wanted was for the actual workout experience to be hands-free.

If your phone is sitting on the floor or across the room, you shouldn't have to walk over and touch it every time you finish an exercise. Reel Motion can read instructions out loud and lets you control the workout using your voice.

It also gives you one place to keep all the workouts you find online.

Instead of having 50 workouts saved on Instagram, another 30 on TikTok and a YouTube playlist you'll probably forget about, you can import the good ones and build your own workout library.

I'm not trying to create another platform full of workout videos. There's already more fitness content online than anyone could ever watch.

The idea is to make the content that's already out there easier to actually use.

Find a workout you like → share it with Reel Motion → get a structured routine → do the workout.

I just launched it and I'm still working on improvements, so I'd really appreciate feedback from other developers.

It's called Reel Motion:
